What do I do and when?

AUG

  1. Review your academic history (check with your counselor).

  2. Make copies of college applications/essay prompts from the Internet.

  3. Create a chart showing colleges, requirements, deadlines for test scores, transcripts, recommendations, housing, financial aid, etc. Record dates each time an item is submitted and keep copies of all correspondence.

  4. ​Work on college essays, having someone critique them.

  5. Register to take the SAT IIs if your college requires it. Check admissions requirements.

  6. If necessary register to take the SAT/ACT. (CEEB code: 100924)

  7. Complete/update your résumé.

  8. Give recommendation forms or requests to teachers at least two weeks before due dates. Be sure they are willing to write a letter for you. Provide them with a stamped pre-addressed envelope OR give clear instructions regarding what to do with the completed letter. Remember to thank your teachers—a handwritten note is preferred.

SEPT

  1. Keep up with CAS deadlines, regularly fill out reflections, and get CAS supervisor approvals.

  2. Complete college applications, order transcripts, compile letters of recommendation, and finalize essays. Make copies of everything. Mail packets!

  3. Check the LOLHS Website/scholarship newsletter.

OCT

  1. Pay attention to deadlines for early decision.

  2. If necessary, retake the SAT or ACT.

  3. Complete FAFSA with parents/guardians.

  4. Use resources available on the web to locate sources of scholarships: fastweb.com.

  5. Give consideration to back up schools.

  6. Complete college applications. Verify that letters of recommendation have been sent, transcripts have been sent, and respond immediately to any requests for additional information from college admissions offices

NOV

  1. Monitor college websites for any admission decisions and/or college requests for missing documentation.

  2. Continue to verify that letters of recommendation have been sent, transcripts have been sent, and respond immediately to any requests for additional information from college admissions offices.

DEC

  1. Check housing deadlines at your chosen school(s).

  2. Regular Decision (RD) deadlines are typically around January 1. Complete and send out all RD applications no later than mid-December. Give yourself a relaxing holiday break by completing your applications before November 15.

JAN

  1. Midterm reports due to colleges that require them.

  2. Monitor LOL school's website and morning announcements for sources of scholarships and financial aid (see Ms. Colon, Career Specialist).

  3. Final (150) CAS hours are due (IB) with documented evidence, reflections, and accomplished learning outcomes.

  4. IB ONLY—Oral presentations in TOK (exact dates provided by teacher).

  5. Check with Ms. Colon (sfraneco@pasco.k12.fl.us) for scholarship opportunities. All scholarships sent to LOLHS will be updated through the school Website/newsletter.

  6. IB ONLY—TOK papers should be finalized by the end of February.

  7. CAS - FINISH FINAL EXPERIENCES - TBD

FEB

  1. Keep preparing for IB and AP exams—college credit earned in high school is like getting scholarship money $$$.

  2. Final (150) CAS hours are due with documented evidence, reflections, and accomplished learning outcomes.

  3. Stay on top of your applications!

MAR

  1. Make your final college decision. Notify your school of choice. Inform other schools to which you applied that you do not plan to attend.

  2. Keep a record of acceptances and financial aid awards (please inform Ms. Baker for IB).

  3. Continue to prepare for AP and IB exams. Pace yourself. These exams will determine your success, so make a study plan/calendar so you are confident and not stressed.

  4. CAS - FINAL REFLECTION DUE - TBD

APR/

MAY

  1. Take AP and IB exams. These exams will help you determine college credit [and awarding of the IB diploma] Pace yourself.

  2. Plan to attend the LOL Celebration of Excellence Program [and the Senior IB Celebration].

  3. Be sure to complete a final checkout with Ms. Baker (ordering a final transcript for college, graduation ceremony information, etc.).
